Eco Trip: Greenista Guide to the Blue Mountains – Part II

Empress Falls Hike in Wentworth Falls

I recently got a second chance to visit the Blue Mountains when one of my best friends flew out to Sydney.  This time we stayed in Wentworth Falls (the Valley of the Waters B&B was amazing!) and spent time perusing shops and tasting local specialties.  Here’s what we loved:

Where to Eat

In Blackheath, a stop at Anonymous Café is a must.  The food is simple fare done extremely well and the coffee is brewed with flavorful Golden Cobra beans.  The Victory Theatre Antique Centre and Café is another great option located on the bottom floor of a large two-story antiques emporium.  Take your coffee to-go and sift through the assortment of vintage goods for sale.

Wentworth Falls may be a tiny town, but the cafes and patisseries are some of the best in the Blue Mountains.  Blue Mist Café, which is part restaurant and part bookshop, is my favorite.  The cozy interior is welcoming and the menu is diverse and locally sourced. Craving something sweet?  Head to Il Postino for a slice of their decadent cakes, many of which are made with fresh ingredients grown on-site, or Patisserie Schwarz for a flaky chocolate croissant.

For a memorable lunch, reserve a deck table at The Conservation Hut.  You’ll get nice views of the Blue Mountains valley while enjoying delicious food.  I highly recommend the house-made iced tea (my favorite was rose water with lemon) and the goat cheese and tomato tart.

Where to Shop

The picturesque village of Leura offers the best shopping in the Blue Mountains.  From frilly and Parisian-inspired clothing stores to lovely paper goods shops like Campo Marzio Design, there is something for everyone.

My top shop pick, however, is Cabin & Co. in Blackheath. The chic and rustic home wares store stocks nature-inspired and handmade items that are unique and well-curated.  I would buy it all if I could!
